I'm looking to start building our own IDP - in the past I have used Jenkins and terraform but Jenkins doesn't have a great UI and also we are thinking of incorporating service catalog into IDP so I was thinking of using Backstage - anyone else doing anything similar?

Hi from London! Here's a question. Does anyone know a PAAS platform you can deploy on kubernetes, which your developers can then create resources on with terraform? I found a project called Stackanetes which would have deployed OpenStack on K8s , but it seems to be dead

Anyone wants to share about internally built platforms? How do you plan adoption? Incorporate (internal) user feedback? And how do you realign your design and architecture with the external ecosystem as time goes by?

I would love to hear people thoughts on the subject to centralize vs decentralize parts of our platform. Let's take kubernetes as an example. Currently we have a number of clusters, 6 cureentlg, that our platform team builds and maintains on behalf of teams. When does it makes sense for teams to own their own clusters and operate them on their own?

Hey people! I have a question from an internal debate we are having in our platform team (www.ohpen.com). I'm not sure this is the right channel. Feel free to point it out in the answers 🙂 ... QUESTION: • As a platform team, should we provide a "just-code" platform to developers. ◦ Example, developers would just code and create docker images/zip files and upload them as artifacts ◦ we will decide when to deploy, ◦ how to deploy, ◦ how to run it (lambdas, ecs, ec2, ...), ◦ monitor and secure it, ◦ scale it ... • OR, should we provide tools to enable them to become devops teams that own everything? ◦ talking about terraform modules, ◦ isolated aws accounts for developing, testing, production, ... ◦ tools for testing (infra to load-test an api, for example) ◦ and we focus on compliance (resource tagging, certificates, ...) Let me know your thoughts and thank you in advance! 🙂

Hey everyone, I’m interested in hearing peoples preferred CI/CD systems in terms of developer experience especially around building, testing, and deploying containers into kubernetes, A/B testing, canary deployments, etc. I’ve traditionally used push systems but now looking at pull based systems (argo/flux/?) - any horror stories, positive experiences, or recommendations?

Hello everyone, does anyone have any suggestions for tools to assist in doing integration testing or even smoke testing a Kubernetes cluster? We install a number controllers/operators onto the clusters we manage and I'd like to write tests to have some confidence in changes to compliment manual testing. An example would be we install a PostgreSQL operator, and we would like to write a test to verify a database instance can be created. Are there tools that people recommend? I found https://github.com/kyma-incubator/octopus and https://onsi.github.io/ginkgo/ but I'm curious what other folks are using?

Question for other devs: Likely moving from a company with dedicated ops to a place with a "you build it, you run it" mentality. Anything I should keep in mind/prepare for if I make the transition for the first time?

1. Observability - have the adequate level of alerts on logging, monitoring, but without getting alert fatigue. Only alert on really critical issues. 2. Automate as much as possible. 3. Use kubernetes and its scaling and "self healing" capabilities

1. Keep change sets as small as possible 2. Double down on observability (plug for honeycomb.io)
👍 3
Note - I used honeycomb.io in my day-to-day job and do not work for them. I firmly believe they are changing the way engineers need to think about observability and making it easy to discover and be curious about your systems
