Hey everyone 👋 - I’m currently working on a new open-source project around infrastructure management/provisioning, particularly for platform teams, based on our experiences at Porter provisioning and managing a large number of AWS accounts and clusters. At the moment, we’re gathering some initial feedback/pain points around infra management for platform teams. If you get the chance, I’d really appreciate some responses to this survey: https://forms.gle/cBbWgdosa8pxsxgt9. Thanks!

Hey everyone 👋🏼 A question for the community members here. What tool do you use to access production database for debugging purposes? Eg let’s say a bug is reported that only appears in prod environment and you need to look up the exact object that is causing the issue, what do you use to go digging? Also, do engineers in your company have static database access keys or is the access permissions somehow granted on-demand? I am trying to find the best solution for our team since our current process/tool is not ideal.

Hi everyone. I am working on an open source project (https://github.com/ctk-hq/ctk) which helps devs generate docker-compose manifest visually (drag-n-drop). This week I am adding kubernetes manifest generation through Kompose and ecs task definition through ecs cli. Im trying to see if its a good idea to tie in CI/CD processes for deploying/updating an ECS cloudformation stack. For example, github actions trigger that would an update. Or just keep the tool as manifest generator.

Many of you have probably seen our DevOps Benchmarking study by now. It’s been a very successful report we put together last year, with thousands of downloads already. We want to make sure we keep this up to date, so we are launching a new survey with new questions from the community to expand on the existing dataset. Find out 👉 how you benchmark against 1800+ other DevOps setups and help us keep the report up to date.

I have a question. I am a devops engineer for a few years at my org and I setup GitHub Actions to call an internal Argo Workflows REST API to execute a bunch of flows I pre-built. These flows execute npm/docker builds, and kubectl or aws-ecs cli commands. I replaced our Jenkins server with this setup. Is this considered an IDP? Even if it's very crude. I've been reading posts on https://platformengineering.org/, and trying to understand what is platform engineering exactly and if it might be needed or "nice-to-have" in non-elite orgs. Tools like Qovery and Flightcontrol offer good UIs, but I feel an average dev can still get it done through a CLI.

hi everyone! I’m doing some research & I wondered if there’s been a Platform Engineering/Ops landscape produced, similar to the CNCF one? I’ve found ones for DataOps and DevOps etc, but haven’t managed to find a Platform Ops one yet! https://landscape.cncf.io/

Hi 👋 General channel! Wanted to give back to this great community and put forward a timely opportunity. My company Antithesis is holding a hackathon later this month 9/24-9/26. We'll be finding bugs in popular open source DBs, the focus will be on high priority open issues, we're currently deciding between Cassandra, CouchDB, HBase, and Hive, we may do more than one of these... We're mostly thinking about testing the most recent stable releases, and not necessarily preview releases. If anyone is having an open critical issue with any of these Databases, and you would like to DM-me for consideration/entry to solve a nasty bug, I can try to have your issue the focus of our hackathon. LMK.

If you aim to keep up with the latest trends in the platform engineering, cloud-native and database world, then this is _the_ _webinar_ with MongoDB’s Andrew Davidson and Humanitec’s @Kaspar. They will discuss: • The value and risk of abstraction • How to design and apply “open, composable abstractions” • What platform engineering means for your organization After a 30 minutes talk, there will be 15 minutes for Q&A. We’d like to encourage you to submit your questions in advance. Register here: https://www.meetup.com/platform-engineers-atx-online/events/287759134/

Hi everyone 🙂 My friend Dan and I are pretty curious about platform engineering. Also, we have just started out building an internal developer platform at TV 2 Denmark, which raises a lot of questions inside the team. Therefore we thought: “We should get some data! Let’s use our network and ask how they see platforms and platform teams.” Maybe: → You are also building an internal developer platform → You build your apps/services on top of such a platform → You are looking into platform engineering and have a lot of expectations. In any case, we would absolutely appreciate it if you could spare 5-10 minutes on our small “Platform Engineering Survey”. Feel free to share it with your network as well. We hope to learn a lot from the responses and maybe identify common characteristics to help us understand what awaits us along the way. In return, we promise that we will share our insights through blog posts and in our talk at The DEVOPS Conference November 1 in Copenhagen. Here’s the link to the survey: https://lnkd.in/eKAptjF2 The survey is anonymous and the data will only be used for research purposes.

Hi all, I can’t believe I’ve discovered this twelve-factor app just now. It’s like a perfect textbook for every developer working on application development which runs as a service. Thoughts on this? Are there other similar conventions I am missing or should be aware of?

Hi. I got here from platformengineering.org. Nice initiative. I noticed the credit to Humanitec at the bottom and the involvement of Humanitec employees, but no "about us" page or similar. So I was wondering: To what extent is the website a Humanitec-initiative and to what extent does it consist of broader community contributions? What is your vision / plan with the website and related mediums (like this Slack space) in respect to Humanitec content and contributions vs generic content and contributions?

Incident management is crucial, yet it throws curveballs with unexpected issues, resulting in data loss, downtimes, and overall money & hours of sleep going to waste, BUT! There are practical things you could do to make it a smoother process and handle it better. Join the webinar with @Hila F tomorrow to learn more about best practices in incident management.
