Hi all! A colleague of mine is conducting a survey on developer platforms and platform engineering. It takes about 5 min to fill out, and it would be great to get some community perspective. This blog post describes the hypothesis they are trying to validate/verify and has a link to the survey. Please take a look! https://www.eficode.com/blog/get-a-unique-snapshot-view-of-platform-engineering-today

Hi, I've seen lots of different perspectives on this so wondered about getting some opinions. With the platform as an internal product model, with the platform engineers working closely with stream aligned squads as a customer to truly understand their needs, how do your organisations manage in translating that into a single prioritised work stream (or dare I say, roadmap). How do you ensure its the teams real needs rather than just the loudest voice getting what they want?

A webinar alert for platform engineers 🚨🚨🚨 Even though IDPs are a hot trend right now, there is still very little knowledge on how to successfully ā€œplatformā€ your setup. Join the webinar TODAY with @Kaspar who has seen hundreds of (un)successful platforming endeavors and get insights on how to structure your platforming process and how to architect your platform. What are the benefits of agile testing vs. traditional testing? • Continuous processes ensure test coverage in all iterations. • Iterative processes ensure that there is no ā€œbig bangā€ release where all the bugs come out at once. This allows you to work on defects one-by-one until they’re resolved, instead of having dozens or hundreds coming out at once (which would be overwhelming). • Collaborative means everyone involved in the project gets regular updates on what’s happening with it so they can participate in meetings and discuss issues as they arise. Learn more about the agile testing approach in our latest blog. https://bit.ly/3e1wU3x

If we are to follow the article’s classification of the three philosophies, my team and I are doing SRE, DevOps and Platform Engineering at the same time. I won’t talk about start-ups because we know how it goes there but in most large enterprises I’ve been, there is no clear distinction between SRE and DevOps always and when there was, SRE’s usually spent a lot more time in development alongside implementing reliability concepts and so forth.

Following to see what you share next week. Do you have a ā€œnon-techieā€ slide deck to show the value of Platform Eng to execs that do not understand the lingo - or care more about how the impact we create affects the company’s main initiatives and not how we do it?

Yes! Anyone at Symposium will see it in the keynote Monday morning. The initial platform engineering research will be aimed at IT leaders (i.e., non-technical) so that may be what you're looking for
I'll follow that up with more in-depth technical advice for engineers and architects in 2023.
