Hi everyone, change data capture (CDC) database replication is so often misunderstood, with teams taking the choice between CDC and batch too lightly when it comes to analytics applications. I had a blast collaborating on this article with John Kutay of Striim about the true downstream positive impact of CDC as well as the technical implications to keep in mind. Take a read! https://towardsdatascience.com/when-change-data-capture-wins-271875e3df1a

Hey platformers! I wanted to let you know about a new podcast made for engineers like you: Always an Engineer. It’s hosted by Asim Razzaq, former head of platform engineering at PayPal, now founder/CEO of Yotascale. He’s sharing personal experiences and lessons learned from 20+ years of being an engineer and leading engineering teams. New episodes weekly, less than 15 minutes each! The trailer + first 4 episodes are available now: Ep. 1: How heroes kill culture Ep. 2: Winning the hearts and minds of engineers Ep. 3: Why software estimation sucks Ep. 4: Software engineers hate meetings for a reason Listen and subscribe on your favorite podcast platform. Rate and review. And let us know what you want to hear! https://yotascale.com/always-an-engineer-podcast/ #alwaysanengineer

Hi Platform Engineering Community! My name is Vernon and I work with our Product Marketing teams at LaunchDarkly. I've been attempting to find more platform engineers who are using feature flags with LaunchDarkly to share their use cases and stories. If you or if you know anyone out there who is using LaunchDarkly let me know! Thanks! Disclaimer: I'm not in sales. This is a feedback exercise for our product and marketing teams. 😒heepy:😛latform-engineering-white:

Hello everyone. I work in Product at Oso where we build Authorization-as-a-service. I'm curious about the relationship between Platform Engineering and the CIO org. Are you more frequently seeing platform engineering arise in product engineering organizations who want to deliver shared services to their development teams because they care about speed, or are they coming from the CIO org to do something similar because they care about standards?

Does codifying environments have to result in insecure configurations? On the contrary, expressing environment definitions via code has the potential to automate the process of scanning for security violations before they ever have the chance to cause harm. In this article, I’ll discuss one way to accomplish this in Terraform environments by using tfsec. Cloudify’s robust Terraform integration makes it easy to expose secure, repeatable Terraform environments to your end users with tfsec scanning built in. https://cloudify.co/blog/securing-terraform-modules-with-tfsec

Hi everyone! Yesterday we had a discussion with the team about the platforms we use for staying on top of platform engineering / cloud native news + discussing about it. Here’s our list: • PE Slack (of course 🤭) • Reddit • Quora • Twitter • LinkedIn • The New Stack / InfoQ / Medium / TechCrunch and other news platforms • Newsletters: Platform Weekly 🥐 (of course), SRE Weekly, KubeWeekly, etc. • Blogs, like CNCF, InfraCloud, DevOps Cube, Docker blog, etc. Please share your useful resources, we would like to expand the circle of knowledge here!

Hi all, I don’t know if you know Replibyte - it’s an open-source tool that I created to seed dev databases with production data while keeping sensitive data safe. It’s written in Rust 🦀 and completely stateless (no daemon, no server, just a single binary). We just reached 3.2k ⭐️ - if you like the project, feel free to give one more. Happy to have your feedback. Note: Replibyte is completely open-source and community driven. I worked on it on my free time. If you are interested in contributing (even if you are not a Rust developer). Please ping me. I have couple of issues that still need to be closed 😄 https://github.com/Qovery/replibyte

Hello fellow Platformers. Hope everyone is having a lovely friday 🙂 I have a question: Are you using the same branching strategy for IaC repo's, scripts repos and configuration repos as you do for you application development repos. I know of course it depends if you have IaC and application split into different repos; Let's assume you have. As an example, would you use the same branching strategy for your DevOps/Platform repos as you do for your Application development repos ?

You have to add the pre-event to your current KubeCon registration by following this link. We'll be diving into cloud-native chaos engineering best practices and hearing from some outstanding community members from the CNCF open-source LitmusChaos project. If you can make it, feel free to DM me for a free pass.

Hi Everyone, with most technical platforms being internal with developers as their primary customers, curious to know what approaches did you take in measuring the value. Unlike external facing products, they may not always have direct revenue impact but are enablers in deliver faster and more frequently (ex: kubernetes platform). Did anyone use value modeling to measure and track value out of internal technical platforms? How did you get the buy in from executive leadership to secure, prioritize and measure value out of the platform investments?

Hi, everyone! I was wondering could someone please recommend me a web-platform maker? (With not much coding). Situation: I have a project in which, I would like to have a web page in which people can order environments for work/demos etc. In this page there would be a login page, page where database and cloud would be chosen, multiple choice possibilities, summary and finally a JSON result of the environment. And a great feature would be if possible to sync this page with a google sheet or excel file. I saw a platform named "*Backstage.io*", maybe someone knows how it is and if it would be good for me? Or maybe some other recommendations. 🙂 I will look through every suggestion and advice. 🙂

I promised big news this morning, and here it is: Platform engineering is one of Gartner's Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2023. So your CIO is suddenly going to be very interested in the topic, starting about an hour from now when the presentation hits the keynote stage at Symposium. In the meantime, hot off the presses, here's my writeup (Gartner clients only): https://www.gartner.com/document/code/774324
