Hi everyone Just wanted to know whether i should consider shifting to platform engineering or not! Because the job market for it low right now but it is estimated to grow in future. Should I continue with devops or consider platform engineering?

Could we get a channel for those who are building platforms in heavily regulated environments like government? Or industry specific channels? I focus on building platforms in the defense space which need to appease a lot of security and compliance requirements that a lot of what is in vogue is not allowed, yet. I'm willing to mod the channel.

Hi everyone, has anyone come across the internal developer portal product called Port ? It's an alternative to Backstage. We are exploring it and learning more. We'd love to hear feedback from any other teams that have evaluated it or know more about it? Thanks a million!

Tune in tomorrow for “Destroy latency and kill pods: how not to manage your K8s resources” with @Natan Yellin. Natan is going to list some of the most common misconceptions about Kubernetes resource management and how not to get them wrong. He'll do his best to destroy some clusters and performance along the way. November 3, 7 PM CET, 1 PM CDT https://www.meetup.com/platform-engineers-atx-online/events/288884220/

Hi everyone 👋, My company is building a no code platform for Kubernetes developers and operators. I would like to reach out to the community to understand some of the developer or operations pain points. Will any of you be interested in a 15-20 mins call focused on current pains points, how you are solving the issues at the moment and what would you like to see in an internal developer platform ? Looking forward for the support from this community to shape the future of what we are building. At the end of the interviews, I am happy to consolidate and share the findings in this group.

Hi folks! I am starting a side project which I think it could be a game changer in terms of team collaboration. Is a dependabot 2.0 where refactors in the source code of the downstream dependencies can be applied in the same way than if it was a monorepo. The idea is: (1) infer the refactors from PRs; (2) Developers can approve/customize the inferred refactors of their PRs; (3) Once they are merged, if there is a new dependency bump, the extra files are refactored. What flaws do you detect here? https://twitter.com/raquelpau/status/1588476126888071168?s=20&t=ur-IiXbNCSJXeRgk_YSj3g

I really don't like the message that platform engineering kills DevOps. I don't know why anyone is pushing it. And yet, here we go again: https://www.cncf.io/blog/2022/11/02/is-platform-engineering-putting-an-end-to-devops-and-sre/ For the record: I wrote the Gartner research that is quoted in this post. I did not say platform engineering replaces DevOps/SRE, and in fact I don't believe that's true.

As a freelancer I work in a multitude of roles. In my current engagement im a platform engineer, and in the next I will probably be embedded in a team, doing devopsy stuff to enable the team, but build upon what the platform team delivers. That yaml aint gonna write itselv. 😁 And in the next role, the org ponders who the heck will keep the system alive, and badaboom ... I put SRE on the business card, slide two seats to the left, and do all the things within that role. There is definite overlap, and in small orgs all 3 roles may not exist, but the tasks that need doing are the same, and they dont go away.

This is the first of a series of podcasts with our VP R&D Alex Molev. In this podcast, we cover a topic that is relevant to many organizations that are facing a market meltdown and are looking for a creative way to reduce their cost without sacrificing their engineering. “In the past year, we saw how software companies found themselves increasing development costs significantly, mainly due to an increase in salaries, as well as due to the emphasis on growth at any price, which creates many inefficiencies.” https://cloudify.co/blog/episode-twenty-eight/
