And it's a wrap!! Thanks everyone for being part of the first ever PlatformCon! 😛latformcon: It's been a ton of fun having you all in here asking and answering questions, talking all things platforms, talking about fruit salads!🥝 This community is a special place, thanks to all of you. I am sure you all still have to catch up on some of the playlists, so have a nice weekend, enjoy the talks and see you at PlatformCon23!

hey guys, generic feedback for next year sessions. This one was good, I enjoyed recordings, but please pay attention to sound / recorded voice quality. I have to say I had to stop listening to at least one recording, because voice quality was so low, that it was hard to focus on the content. In general it was OK, but there should be some quality gate that approves videos (probably there is, but for some reason at least this one was not checked)

Anyone else going to be at Monitorama in Portland. If so, DM me would love to meet up and do some of these activities in a few weeks after hours. Never been to Portland, but supposedly Summer Time is the best time of year. Excited for it! https://www.travelportland.com/events/summer-downtown-portland/

It’s important to be in sync with respect to what counts as platform engineering in an organization. @Ryan Grimard raised a great question a few days ago: What percentage of your engineering organization is Platform Engineering? 0️⃣ 0% 1️⃣ 1-5% 2️⃣ 6-15% 3️⃣ 16-30% 4️⃣ 31-50%

Hey ! Does anyone have good resources to read up more about Platform Teams ? I am working on a talk which has an opinion “Platform teams are doing the wrong thing” (sort-of), and want to validate that against some industry knowledge of what people see as platform teams. Anything you can send me / tell me about platform teams would be really helpful 🙂

An endless topic: IDP - when and why would you (not) need it? Just recently I read a couple of articles about why software teams need an IDP (TechBeacon and The New Stack) and listened to some of the talks from PlatformCon. Here are my key takeaways: • Don’t jump into IDP just because it’s trending. Better analyze existing commercial and open-source tools to see if it is something your organization is ready for. ◦ Often companies are still too small for an IDP to benefit them. ◦ IDP is worthy once the company has one or more development teams working on different aspects of one or more interconnected applications. • IDP is not a threat to operations teams. It’s the opposite. Operations teams can spend more time satisfying customer demands rather than fielding requests from development teams. • Treat platform as a product. A takeaway from

    Manuel Pais talk▾

at PlatformCon. Shortly, once the cognitive load is reduced for development teams, they are then more capable to put focus on customers’ needs. • Assess 2 scenarios: to build IDP internally or outsource. ◦ Building internally requires not only the additional investment in the technology, but a separate platform engineering team as well. However, this scenario might benefit if a company has strong autonomy internally. ◦ Outsourcing gives a full package with know-how instead of investing time and money doing it per se. What other important points am I missing?
