Hi everyone! I have a question about scaffolding applications as part of the platform. Say that you want to give developers a way to get up and running quickly with a new project. This might include not only giving them basic code that is right for the type of architecture they are going to be using (say, a virtual environment. setup, a base dockerfile, a makefile with commands to build and test locally…). How do you typically go about making this available to developers?

hi platform folks! I'm interested in hearing more about how people are implementing validation steps (e.g., a check using Open Policy Agent, Terraform Sentinel, or something custom you've built into either (a) IaC template creation & publishing, or (b) your deployment workflow. What's working well, vs challenging about making sure the right checks are in place [and that you can track them after the fact, or grant exceptions]?

Hey guys have a question please. When migrating an Elasticbeanstalk env from one account to the next in AWS, if I edit the saved configuration with the new versions of the packages I want installed before creating, does it deploy the env with those versions. For example if the saved config I have has php 5.7 and looking to deploy the new env with php 8.0 for drupal.

While I love cloud / infrastructure platform - i’d be interested to know if anyone here working on frontend platforms like micro frontends or design systems (web, iOS and Android)?

Howdy! Is anyone here working with Canary Releases through pipelines ? (without gitops) If so, what's your average duration of your progressive deploy step? Do you have any manual promotion in place? Do you use Argo Rollouts?

OpenTelemetry users might find it useful as well as I did: https://blog.frankel.ch/end-to-end-tracing-opentelemetry/ An end-to-end tracing with OpenTelemetry, describing how to start the journey into observability.

Folks, what do you use for deploying at scale? Argo, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Tekton? Is having an OSS solution a requirement for you? Is there any place with this data?

Ho do you test infrastructure changes (e.g running terraform apply) ? Are you running them in your PRs? Do you have different AWS/Cloud accounts? How do you protect that 2 PR that are touching terraform files become inconsistent, because you share the Terraform status?

I have a product question if you do not mind. Do you support ChatOps in your Platform? What kind of automation they are triggering? I would like to understand the ChatOps use case better

For those that are using ArgoCD, how do you automatically update the container version that is referenced in the Kubernetes manifest? Is this a process that is performed by the CI? Is your CI pushing changes in the repository and therefore has write access? Is this not a security issue? I have found that for some companies this is a security issue, because it means that anybody with write access in the repo, can perform changes like (removing all the repo contents and the history) from a PR.

Hello everyone 👋 I just published my first article of a series of 5 on how we built Qovery - a cloud deployment platform. In 3 years of development, we learned a lot about how to build a platform that provides a great developer experience while not compromising on the ability of DevOps to keep control. In this article, you will learn how we architect Qovery to handle thousands of deployments daily and what services we use under the hood (Kubernetes, Loki...). This article is a good start for all DevOps interested in Platform Engineering and how to build such a system. I hope you like it.

Hi folks, I published an article on my experience with building / designing platform organizations. The first article focuses on defining your purpose (what it is, why it matters, and how to do it). It's a follow up from my PlatformCon talk earlier this year. Love any feedback!

Hey guys, I have some question I think are basic but I just can’t find any best practice, tradeoffs, whatever When working with lots of microservices, eash has it’s own requirements for infrastructure it always get to a time where one service infra depends on another service (in aws worls, one sqs depends on another sns for example) how do you manage it in integration environments ? • always deploy all the infrastructure ? • recursively deploy dependencies ? do you store the infra code with the service repo (same repo) ? in a centralized infrastructure repo? when having multiple “preview environments” / dynamic environments / ad hoc environments, how do you keep them in sync ? when having terraform code change, is it a different pull request then code changes ? how do you make sure it is deployed before other pull requests ?

Hi folks - we're getting together a mini-meetup of platform component providers at Kubecon on Thursday afternoon at the Red Hat booth, details here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YNA1rYlZRZCGIj1VW6mL6a8HUXPHgQ2HaxunMOaoIVI/edit Join us to discuss emerging innovations to solve problems for platform builders, like how to provision infrastructure from many providers or how to discover bindings and secrets. If you have an innovative solution please consider adding it to the doc and deck and presenting for ~5 minutes. Thanks!
