#metrics in Engineering.
You need measurement to understand the impact of the changes you're making, so what are some key metrics
your teams are bought into? The ones I typically highlight are:
• Cycle Time - measures the lifespan of a single unit of work
• Lead Time - measures the Cycle Time of Ideas (I stole this from someone much smarter than me)
• Merge Frequency - merging devs are happier devs
• MTTR/MTTD - this only works if you have tight discipline around incident management (shameless plug for Courtney Nash's
Dev Interrupted pod recently)
