Thanks Giulia, good initiative 👍 . From my small experience, it’s hard to follow multiple channels and discussions. I think one main channel where we can talk about everything related to platform engineering is the best way to go. Now for vendor-specific posts, I agreed that they should be excluded from the #general channel 👍

I think we should create a #products channel and ask product builds to post their annoucements there (new products, updates to products, etc).

Impossible to herd this many cats 🤣 Think the hard vendor pitches (eg we are selling something and it’s clear) and events should be moved to products channel as @Nimrod Wandera recommended or #vendors? But we should be careful that discussions on design and tech that are part of vendor platforms is still unfettered.

I recently posted on #general as there was a lack of a related channel. Perhaps we should audit the messages in #general to identify some new channels we might need?

Rands Leadership Slack deals with the commercial aspect quite nicely -- that perhaps is a good source of inspiration. FWIW, the commercial spam in channel and DM's I get here are probably the highest of all the slacks I idle in. This both devalues the content here as well as cools my desire to participate.

There is a super high signal to noise ratio here. I think part of the challenge is "what is this thing"

Thank you for these inputs! Loving the participation. I agree with @Louis Bailleul, but I think it's more because we have many channels people don't know about, which could be confusing. So I could hold a poll to keep the ones that are relevant and to remind people where to go. @Nathan Hruby thank you for the feedback. I try to notify and block as much as I can but it's super hard! Also, please come forward if you get solicited in private 🙂 I will try to act as soon as possible. #product can be a solution, @Nimrod Wandera my fear is to create another channel that then gets not used. Let's see if someone else has something to bring up, if not I will try to act on all your suggestions.

My thoughts: 1. Consider
#random
or
#watercooler
etc for conversations with no real home. 2. Scroll back in #general and see if there are logical new channels to be created 3. Potential look at onboarding sequence to highlight the relevant channels 4. Add clearer guidelines on what should go in #general (or actually, you could remove entirely) Channel curation is hard, but worth it when you get the ground rules in place 😄 - Happy to chat more if helpful, Giulia! 🙂
