BTW, isn’t it late for you?
n
It's not like I'm sleeping particularly well right now.
j
A newborn?
n
I wish. 😃 Just stressed out. This pregnancy thing is getting super real though.
j
Not sure if you have tried it yet so sharing: magnesium glycinate 400 mg before bed
Take daily
Also, chamomile / lemon / whatever caffeine free tea
t
Keep in mind, you got it much easier than your wife.
n
Might give that a shot
j
Finally, try to take a walk daily for 30 mins. It can be done piecemeal, e.g. 2 x 15 mins or whatever

All the doom and gloom aside, parenthood is awesome, but expensive, but like every generation before, you will find a way to make it work.

For extra credit and purely optional, take vitamin d in the morning. 2000 IU should be more than safe and enough
If you thought you were ambitious and driven before kids, you will discover new levels after they are born
They are in your way, distracting you so you pivot around them
Find ways to succeed for them

I skipped on vitamin d this and last year as I am more outdoors now than I used to be. Maybe I should go back to talking vitamin d if only for the placebo. https://platformengin-b0m7058.slack.com/archives/C06CRF6QRL4/p1705974489496229?thread_ts=1705973230.064579&cid=C06CRF6QRL4 Can you elaborate? It's not part of the typical parenting lore.
One thing I am curious to find out about is How many of the things fathers usually say actually holds water and what is just the socially acceptable thing to say 😄

Have you considered a change to a psychologist or sociologist. I have survived almost 18 years of parenthood. Based on my observations and experiences it is easier for some than others. I have watched parents mourning the passing of their children, work hard to give their children an equal chance, and others fight to give their gifted child the opportunities to grow. It is not the same path for each family.
j
I will give you a practical example. The eye of jordan we joke about is jordan finding timeslices in the day to keep engaged with the work the team is doing while attending to a regular child's routine
E.g. early emails while they eat breakfast
Reviewing docs while they eat dinner

If I didn’t say it before, congratulations. Becoming a parent is special. I wish you and your family the best health during the upcoming months, an easy birth, and fortitude to see it through until your child is independent.
j
I was saving my own congratulations until the moment comes. Tom said it way more wisely than I would. I don't blame him, he has more experience as a dad than I do

Well said Thomas. It’s not the quantity rather quality of sleep/rest that has been important for me. Namely, with all the kids I have been raising ;)
