I'm going to rant about recruiters for a couple minutes. I'm sorry. I just have to get this off my chest somewhere. And my wife is sick of hearing about it 😂 🧵
A MAIN PART OF YOUR JOB IS COMMUNICATION
HOW ARE YOU SO BAD AT COMMUNICATION
Oh my god
I was in contact with a recruiter at HashiCorp back in November. I got a referral, we chatted, unfortunately her position had just closed but she was going to pass my resume around to other recruiters with open positions.
Radio silence for a month. I pinged her to see what was up.
In the mean time more positions come up, I apply, I ping her with a last-ditch "I'm assuming this means you don't want to move forward with me, or hiring has changed" last week.
She responded! "When's a good time to talk on Tuesday?" I duly send my availability.
No response. Tuesday passes. Wednesday has now passed. No response, no email, no apology "oh my gosh I'm sorry" I mean I get it if things aren't going to work out but can you fucking keep me posted?
Just a note?
Today a recruiter from Forma wanted to chat at 2pm TODAY. Conversation in LinkedIn. I said sure, here's my number and my resume. No call, no message.

Realize that seasonality is a part of it
Organizations are setting Q1 budgets right now

It's the ghost, then the come back, then the re-ghost that really gets me. Or the "here is a *confirmed time*" ghost which is different than just a trail of email dying off

I want to respond with "I was born ready," but that is not true 😂
Thankfully I've been actively looking for a while, which I no longer feel any shame in sharing here.
So while not born ready, I am ready now
And let me tell you Nov/Dec is bleak
But, on to the future!

If it makes you feel better, I also get ghosted
The best one was who called for like 1-2 secondsz hung up and never called back
I asked them if they still want to connect, yep, gave time, ghosted again

I basically banned that organization from future consideration

I'm getting close with HashiCorp although it is very nearly my dream job (I think), which hopefully I could confirm if I could actually get on a loop with some engineers 🤷

It would be so unlike hashicorp to completely reverse course on something clearly presented in black and white

Good luck. They seem to be at a fork. They either turn a corner and become super great... or not. It won't be anything in-between

Philbrook, your story about HC hiring process rings a bell, some form of déjà vu. I heard something really similar before in Wayfair/HC application but for the love of higher power can’t remember the details.

I believe your wife Jordan .... I think slack is to blame , you might be repeating some of the old habits but now at level larger than Wayfair
@Nicholas Philbrook I think the ghosting though unpleasant is now very much part of the process. Being on visa , a lot of time I get ghosted because they cannot sponsor it but don't want to say it out loud (legal issues I assume) . Wayfair has done it in the past to my wife when she applied.
