Does anyone have experience with https://www.brainboard.co/? Looking at various tools to replace TFCloud.
d
This looks like a comprehensive GUI based architecture/design tool which outputs code, runs it and also re-integrates drift and allows for dynamic, realtime changes between users/teams. Last i checked TFCloud did not do all of this... it still relied on users managing the code themselves but provided features derived from the state storage and execution. If i wanted to move away from TFCloud i'd take a look at the list of supporters behind OpenTofu https://opentofu.org/supporters/ they are are the ones directly affected by the legal manoeuvres which make terraform unviable for them to run on their customers behalf. But please let me know what you find in your analysis of brainboard... it seems really cool.

Ah thanks, that is helpful. Also looking at ENV0, AutoCloud, Massdriver.

SpaceLift might be another one to check out. Looking forward to hearing your analysis 🙂

I agree and wish we were, but it just missed the shortlist

May i ask which tool/services above as at ENV0, AutoCloud, Massdriver including self-hosted?
a
@Randy Schneiderman curious on what led you guys to re-consider tfcloud, and why those wound up being on the short list?
m
add structura.io to the list though they are more than just IaC has much more including CI/CD workflow, cost analyzer, support for OpenTofu, Terraform, CDK, AI/NLP............

I had never head of brainboard before, but saw your post and I just gave it a try. The idea is very nice but I tried creating something it still looks like an early stages tool. for ex. the suggested attributes are not filtered for the supported type (ex. for selecting. subnet ID for an instance it shows me IDs of any resources that are not subnets). Also many fields do not have any smart hints and they are not self explanatory. So for the selling point, you still need to manually write tf code 😅 then I don't see an advantage.

Hey, Massdriver cofounder here, so bias disclaimer etc. Env0 is going to be great if you’ve got TF or opentofu code and want to run a traditional “DevOps”-centered team to write and manage tf / cloud Brainboard is going to be great if you dont have the IaC chops and need to diagram your way to IaC Massdriver is a fit if you have an ops/devops/plat Eng team w iac skills, but want to shift management and execution to devs without them having to learn your iac/policy tooling. All great options!
