Octopus Deploy. They are putting their prices up considerably, our bill will go up roughly 15x. Has anyone got experience of migrating away from Octopus, or reliable strategies for consolidating projects whilst allowing granular deployments? I've noticed it isn't even included on https://platformengineering.org/platform-tooling - are the alternatives clearly better?

We are in a transition phase with our infrastructure and Octopus is one of those tools that will be sunset due to their pricing these days...like it's served us well but it's not adding enough for us to pay the price

@Chris Key What's your tech/cloud stack? There are probably 20+ founders/companies and likely hundreds of platforms teams within this slack group that are building their own alternatives to a solution like octopus deploy. 😂 If you share a few more details it'll help us either pitch our own products or point you to a vendor/project.

@venkata mutyala We're Azure - mix of PaaS and IaaS, moving more towards AKS. Requirements generally include secure (private) networking and anywhere from 3 to 11 environments.

happy to chat CD, imo at prodvana.io what we have seen is due to the lack of players in the CD space the prices at amory, harness and octopus are out of control
a lot of the other issues around the space seem to stem from vendors pre-cloud building cloud based deploys now and are carrying the cost of pre-cloud in R&D before there were more standardized components
the current new vendors seem to miss that there’s pre-cloud and focus only on k8s.
this lets octopus and the like drive prices up bc there’s no competition imo
and then people think it’s cheaper to DIY on CI or the like

👋 Hi all, my name is Bob Walker, and I’m the Field CTO at Octopus Deploy. I wanted to quickly chime in. I don’t want to hijack this thread, so if you wish to discuss the reasoning behind the pricing model change or have additional questions, I’d be happy to start a new thread and discuss more. We want to work with all of our existing customers. We know how hard it can be to change budgets mid-year or unexpectedly. Please contact your account manager or sales@octopus.com to discuss options. I can’t promise anything specific, as we’ve found that there is nuance for each use case. But we will do our best to work with you.

Hey Chris! I’m happy to have a chat on the topic - I wouldn’t recommend a single solution without knowing more about your situation and your consolidation / migration strategy. To answer your question if the platform tooling landscape solutions are all better - I can’t tell for sure, but they’re curated by the community (which includes vendors) and no one did take the time to actually request for Octopus to be on that landscape. TLDR: Want to share a virtual coffee and chat about possible solutions to your situation? Shoot me a DM.
