Last week I've made a mess on LinkedIn with "Platform Engineering is dead" 🙂 it attracted 700k+ views, 1000+ reactions. Looks like I've hit the target (by mistake, posting my thoughts after a long day of budgeting discussions). I owe some advisory to be applied, because what I've provided so far was just three sentences like: stop selling DevEx, stop selling orchestrators, stop selling portals. So this is what I think we all should "sell" (internally) if we want to build Platforms. It made a lot of discussions & valuable insights on LinkedIn, so I hope we will also search for some hints here 🙂 https://khalasa.com/2024/07/is-platform-engineering-dead-platforms-thorough-of-disillusionment-phase-how-to-resurrect-the-trend/

I guess we need to get new shirts made? #platformengineeringisdead😄 this article I wrote last year is about basically this exact issue. Companies not realising that PE is not just a rebrand of their current setup, and most of all - it isn’t just a technical shift https://platformengineering.org/blog/9-steps-to-platform-engineering-hell
There is a misunderstanding overall, and there has been from the beginning about the extent to which platform engineering is about the cultural shift, and not the technical shift. That’s how we get a deluge of companies just implementing Backstage and then patting themselves on that back that their doing platform engineering
