I believe some of you might be interested in the economics of internal developer platforms. As money is a universal language that everyone understands 🙂 https://www.engineeringprimer.com/p/the-economics-of-internal-developer
I'd appreciate your feedback if something in this article does not resonate or if assumptions are wrong. It was quite a challenge to cover the most important aspects with proper reasoning.

Hi @Bartek Antoniak This is a very detailed analysis. Can you please share the ROI template that you created? Thank you

@Yifat Matatof happy to share, please DM me with your email address

Article is great Bartek but seems focused on dev platform. I think other types of platforms (data, cloud, etc) may need a different article with different content.
btw this site is blocked in our internal firewall. it does not give clues about the reason.

@Nhico Renz thanks for the feedback Indeed, this is written from the internal dev platform angle. Can you please elaborate a bit more how cloud/data economics model might look like from your perspective? (btw. nice timing, as in the following months I'll be covering more topics around data platforms)

Cloud and Data platform have common needs as dev platforms, but there are challenges that are unique to each area. E.g often orgs are dealing with multiple cloud platforms over time, and rationalization could show clear ROI numbers Maybe Data platform could cover needs from ML/AI Platforms as well. Dev for sure cover a big chunk of the pie but will be great if someone could write an article covering Cloud & Data. Mostly the ROI spreadsheet will be significantly different. Your article is great because I saw this pattern multiple times across orgs: Limited ability to demonstrate with numbers, how they can invest/rationalize in order to get the ROI savings later.
