As Platform PM, which roles (aside from software developer) do yo usually keep within your stakeholders group? How do you ensure priorities and communication are aligned?
j
PMs/EMs in the product teams utilizing our platform.
k
CIO / COO. Platform must be aligned with IT Operating model (services definition and execution modes). And Enterprise Architects, to keep track on systems and technologies (current and future, to be supported by Platforms). EA can also help discover duplication (on tech and practices area)

hey thanks for your inputs @Jonathan Ljungblad in the case of the PMs you invite are they technical? Or what type of actionable feedback you get from them when presenting a new platform capability ?
@Krzysztof H. What is the kind of input and artifact you usually receive from these Enterprise Architects? Use Cases? Technology evaluations?

Usually depending on the state of our initiative: #1 start of the platform: here I work a lot with EA, because I need list of all systems, business capabilities, technologies being used and teams - to decide on platform tech stack, to select migration strategy for systems and to identify teams I need to analyze (I do value stream mapping and maturity assessment, the whole analysis framework I’ve put in my course: https://drogaarchitektait.pl/en/efficient-platform-manager-global/, how I approach it is here: https://khalasa.com/2024/01/how-to-approach-internal-developer-platform-delivery/ ) #2: if we are already platforming for some time: EA helps me to plan future services of the Platform, because they are first to know that there will be new delivery / SaaS / product purchase initiative, which will be supported by the platform. Scope is similar to #1, but usually smaller
And I don’t think PMs needs to be super technical to invite them to demo - you just need to adjust the language (instead of „now you can create namespaces in one click” use „now your Teams can create a space in the environment for new microservices immediately” - it’s the same thing, but we don’t build a tech-language wall between us. It’s useful if the PMs are being charged with Plarform Services)

CISO is a major stakeholder as well since security is often times baked into platforms. When working in cloud, cost becomes a concern as well, so mayyyyyybe, CFO to some extent.

thanks @Krzysztof H. I was asking Jonathan about the PMs being technical because regardless of if they are or not, what actionable input can they provide given that usually business PMs delegate that to their EMs counterparts. Unlike Security or Enterprise Architects who are and do understand the solution and it’s impact
