Hey all 👋, I'm Director of Cloud Engineering for a product design and technology innovation consultancy; we work to deliver client solutions that span the physical and digital worlds.
There is two angle to my interest in Platform Engineering:
• Our client projects: we've tended to approach ever engagement as greenfield, but as more and more of our project teams are working on digital services we're finding there is duplication of effort/ re-inventing the wheel in the underlying platform (the undifferentiating heavy lifting). I'm trying to wrap my head around the relevance/ applicability of platform engineering in this scenario, having not long come out of a product company where platform engineering was very mature.
• Our internal projects: having an IDP to reduce time to value, cost and enable rapid experimentation seems like a no-brainer.
