I have a question: what are the challenges (issues) in platform engineering?
i
The main one I try and achieve with the products my team offers is to simplify complexity. The others are social/political but discovery and buy-in. By discovery I mean actually hearing from IC's what they need (instead of them complaining to someone else) and convincing product and production that the work we do has value.

mapping technical outcomes to business ones
most of the value platform teams are providing are indirect to business outcomes

Overindexing on the technical without understanding the cultural element. It’s very rarely tool choice which causes pain with my platform initiatives, it’s not properly understanding platform as a product etc

@Sam Barlien product is so important. In my team I am not just the lead engineer and often the architect, I am also the producer and product owner. We don't really have anyone who is even capable of groking what we do, let alone planning it, so I have had to learn entirely new skills and perspectives to achieve my goals.
