Migrations! The Principal Eng on our Platform team wrote up a great article on the psychology of migrations and the difficulty in sparking action. It is hard to get people to read and take action without causing panic.

This could have been written (the techniques and frustrations) about a migration we did last year that touched every service. :scream: 

We are finding it to be a common pattern, with predicable emotions

A couple other things we did that seemed to help:
• we set up a dashboard to track team-level progress - this helped to visualize for everyone what efforts were being made, and what was left to do
• as we got closer to crunch time, we started having regular “office hours” to help anyone struggling to get across the finish line
