Hi! Excited to join and learn more about Platform Engineering. Feel kinda silly I just learned Platform Engineering was an actual term after reading this Medium article just now, but also vindicated and super excited! I’m a software engineer focusing more on automation and building tools and workflows to improve our dev’s experiences. My goal from the start has been to reduce their cognitive load and establish structure and standards. Was never sure what to say when asked what I do now since I don’t build apps for stakeholders. Since I work for a platform company, I always answered with something akin to, “I build tools for the platform our developers use”. So this article, and what I am starting to learn about Platform Engineering…I completely resonate with! It’s exactly the mentally and approach I’ve taken since tasked with these objectives. Albeit I have much to learn about Platform Engineering itself, I do feel this encompasses exactly what I am practicing and steering my career in. I just didn’t know it was more formalized! So cool.
