Hi everyone! đź‘‹ I'm searching for relevant content on how to build a effective Developer Experience assessment. Does anyone have a template or material to share? Thanks in advance.

@Bryan Rossi what do you mean by “assessment “?

Hi Pete, how are you doing? Thanks for asking. Basically, a set of questions where developers could evaluate the overall Developer Experience, based on their perception

I have the same question! Thinking in a hypothesis-driven approach, we need to assess DevUX to plan our actions better. We take one action then we measure if the outcome is the desired one. But how can we "measure" developer experience?

I would love to hear more about this too. We find metrics / measurement really challenging.

Hi there!
Indeed, I had the very same pain.
When I was working in a big company, +400 engineers, we used two surveys: • https://github.com/TeamTopologies/Team-Cognitive-Load-Assessment • https://devopsefficiency.com/list.html We were running them each quarter.
Then, we were observing how our actions made an impact on those surveys.
It’s a little cumbersome as it was a manual process.
I started back then to create a small project to measure cognitive load and the impact of platform teams on it to improve the developer experience. Is it something that you would like to try to see if it works for you? Right now it’s in development and I used within the team only.
My root pains are: • Unable to measure the impact of platform teams • See how the cognitive load/developer experience improved/got worse over time

We’ve done a number of things over time. Localised use of the Spotify Squad health checks which can be made systematic, we’ve also started to trial a tool called DX which looks to be really useful to use at scale across our org and helps aggregate and trend over time. It has some interesting backing research wise as well. There is a cost but looks like will payback given our scale.
This alongside DORA metrics feels like our main metrics for delivery.

@Rob Hornby May I ask how big is your company, to find DX interesting? It looks like a solid solution but unfortunately there is not so much information about it.
