In large corporations... POs or PMs will may your enemy if you want to build Platform š especially if their KPIs are not aligned with what you want to offer.
mostly because Platform done right will reduce the need of DevOps Engineers in every project, or reduce the need of setting-up different tools doing the same "because our domain is so special and we want to be independent". And this means:
⢠less people reporting to PO/PM = less power in organization structures
⢠less tools under the hood = being less irreplacable.
I know it's controvertial what I say now, but it is a reality for many large organizations.
This is why I do not go to PO/PMs with the idea of the Platform - I go to the senior management. And once I have their blessing - and mid-management KPIs change (so they won't work against standardization, flow unlocking, product mentality etc) - I go to PO/PMs for cognitive load recognition, convincing them that Platform will contribute to their new objectives
