I’m not entirely sure, but I think Spotify might match your description. Do you think it does?

Yeh there are definitely similarities from what o have read of that evolution.

I'm going through this very process. We've experienced several years of high growth. All product teams have autonomy, although not aligned to consistent standards, practices or NFRs. I'm 8 months into sellin Platform as a Product and defining KPIs. We are also looking at IDP to reverse Conway ourselves out of this and codify or standards and practices. Cognitive load is extremely high so that's another challenge I'm working through.... Slowly, but surely

Yeh I think that to some degree you need a team who can consistently advance the foundational piece (Backstage in my case) for long enough to outlast the surrounding inconsistencies

Hey @jpeach. Same here at Picnic. We give high autonomy to teams, have little overhead and flat hierarchy (but not chaos 😉) Because of the autonomy, the platforms started out quite by itself. It can be small to provide real value across the company. Forming proper product teams came later for us.

Hi @jpeach
First of all i’d really recommend listening to @Roi Ezra podcast on his experience in driving this initiative at AppsFlyer.com
As @Taras Mankovski mentioned i believe that Backstage provide a great place to start.
My personal experience with the platform since we started our integration with backstage showed that its quite extendable and it didn’t took us much time to learn and integrate it with our own environment

Ok I am going to ask: Did anyone succeed bringing such alignment using SAFe?

Thanks for all the links @Nati Shalom - looking at using Backstage for our platform engineering as well
