I think the original idea of agile (as it was way back in the day) has been lost. It used to be "we're going to break the big plan into smaller chunks so we can pivot as need to react to market and/or customer requirements."
It has grown such that the "big plan" is often not well defined at all, just a pile of tasks in a backlog.
Additionally, it has twisted so much that we have "rituals" around it - Such that, IMHO, the ratio of work:meetings (dailies, backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint kick off, sprint retrospective) has gotten out of whack.
In short, I see more instances of the work supporting the process instead of the process supporting the work.
