I had a broad question for those of you who have an internal developer platform..... What does it actually look like? What tools do your developers interact with?

I am actually writing a piece on that at the moment. Will share with you when I am done 🙂

Awesome - it feels like there's a lot of theory shared, but I haven't seen a lot of examples. 'This is how our developers do XYZ' would be be great to calibrate/learn from

I know that this is not an “in the wild” answer, but have you checked out https://internaldeveloperplatform.org/ ?

When it comes to portals as the goal I think that can get dangerous. For example backstage is a powerful UI, but I don't hit about you but I'm not a JavaScript dev 😅 Not saying this specific solution will be right for you, but my advice would be to have a think about how to keep the UI just about display as much as possible.
