I was hoping to have the cover letter discussion in that other channel, but I appreciate y'all's thoughts regardless. Sounds like a resounding "don't bother."

Based on my experience, cover letters does have its place. I have written and have used namely when recruiters / placement agencies have submitted me into an organization. Having said that my last two positions have been through referrals so this process may have been antiquated. or I may not have reached the totem pole where it’s required :)
