Hi everyone, do you perhaps have a list of standard plugins that are good to add to any backstage instance? I've added a few plugins already but am finding it hard to look for more plugins that make the IDP more appealing to my potential users, thanks 🙂

a sizable portion of the plugins are ecosystem dependent so just seeing whats in use in your company is a good start. For example installing an Argo plugin if you don't use Argo doesn't increase value for a user The next step I'd suggest is talking to users to see what would be useful. 1:1 is fine, but I've found doing a quick jam session over lunch to be faster, driving questions here can be about friction with existing views/data isolation, workflow hiccups, interruptions and collaboration gaps that can help the teams operate faster and with less interrupts
Be sure to include other teams adjacent to the developers so you can understand where some of those requirements come from and if you can pre-empt them (eg security looking for owners or ops looking for docs)
Also as a slight plug for my company if you need a specific plugin built we are happy to help.

I guess you’re having it the wrong way around @Hamzah Malik - instead of guessing what your users might want or even worse, have us guess (we know even less about your users), you should ask them! What is actually problematic for them? How would an ideal world look like for them? I am sure @Marta Wozniak has some more good hints, as soon as she’s back from vacation 🙂

Thanks @Clemens Jütte! to the above points (that I janky plus1 and would just go for) I'd add a drawback of your current approach Hamzah: the more things/options you add, the more onboarding and support your IDP will require. So while it's easy to add a lot of potentially useful stuff it all increases complexity, make sure you'll get the expected value in return and the value is big enough.
