I've asked for teams to provide a description of their workflows for common development activities (feature development, debugging, issue resolution). I also ask what tools they use, and what they wish they could use. Finally I ask the magic wand question: “what one thing would you change if you could wave a magic wand?” All those give me a ton of material to refer back to when doing vision and roadmap work.
